Who Is Matt Scarff?
Matt Scarff is a former ITV executive who has been appointed as the Managing Director of BAFTA’s Climate and Sustainability Division, albert.
Matt Scarff is also a strategic and commercial leader with over 20 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry.
He has a background in brand and communications, having worked at organizations such as the BBC, Channel 4, and BBH. He is recognized as a creative leader and qualified coach and mentor (ICF-ACC) and has featured in the OUTstanding LGBT+ Executive Role Model Top 100 list for four years.
His expertise lies in operations management, strategy, and leading large multi-disciplinary teams in the creative industry.
Scarff’s most recent role is the Managing Director of BAFTA’s Climate and Sustainability Division, albert, where he is driving initiatives to embed climate action and address climate issues in the screen industry. His appointment reflects his extensive experience and leadership in the media and entertainment sector.
BAFTA’s Climate And Sustainability Division Appoints Former ITV Exec As New Boss
Matt Scarff, former ITV executive, has been appointed as the Managing Director of BAFTA’s Climate and Sustainability Division, albert. Scarff’s appointment comes as albert ramps up its efforts and as the level of industry engagement increases.
Before joining albert, Scarff served as the Head of Sustainability at ITV. He has also worked as a sustainability advisor for the BBC and as International Manager for BAFTA. In his new role, Scarff will provide visionary leadership and drive strategic initiatives that foster robust collaborations with BAFTA and the industry.
Scarff has taken the Managing Director role on a permanent basis, having been interim boss. “Over the last three months I’ve witnessed the incredible opportunity that BAFTA albert has to create genuine change within the screen industry,” he said. “The appetite for environmental change within the industry is obvious and the strategy we have in place at albert is perfectly placed to help make the changes we need to protect the future of our planet.”
Scarff’s appointment follows the departure of Carys Taylor, who took on a new role within BAFTA and now serves as the Director of Climate Content. The appointment of Scarff as Managing Director of albert demonstrates the organization’s commitment to driving meaningful change in the screen industry and fostering collaboration between BAFTA and the industry to embed climate action and address climate issues on screen
Scarff’s appointment comes as albert ramps up, and as the level of industry engagement increases. As well as training, research, and certification, albert is on the front foot in terms of the discussion around incorporating climate themes into film and TV. Although commissions and financing are challenging, there is a growing group of industry folk who, as well as making projects that are sustainable, also want to address climate issues on screen.
Having served a long stint at commercial broadcaster ITV, Scarff has variously been a consultant and career coach. At albert, he reports to BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip.
