Who Was Stanley Russell? Seven Hills Shooting

Stanley Rusell has been identified as the man killed in a police shooting in Seven Hills. He allegedly confronted on-duty police officers with a knife and ax.
After Rusell was shot, the police conducted CPR on him until the medics arrived, but it was too late for him by then.

The tragic event occurred in Bulah Way in Seven Hills, where Rusell was staying with his aunt. It is reported that he was an aboriginal man. He belonged to the Gomeroi People and was a traditional resident of Walgett, NSW.

Rusell was raped as a child by two men but did not disclose it to anyone for many years. It affected him adversely in life, and he faced jail time because of domestic violence offenses.

Mrs Russell said her son had moved to Sydney after their home in Walgett was burnt down and police alleged it was his fault, which he denied.

She said her son “had trouble” in life and spent a long time in jail, including for domestic violence offences, because he was raped as a child and didn’t tell anyone for many years.

“My son was raped by two men and he has never been the same,” she said.

Mr Russell’s mother, Helen Russell, said she last spoke to her son on Monday. He left behind a partner and six children, she said.

“It is devastating,” she told the Herald. “I don’t know what to do. I’m that upset, I don’t know what to do.”

Dale McPherson, a neighbour who knows the Mr Russell’s family, described them as lovely people.

“I don’t want anyone to be shot but you don’t know what the circumstances were,” he said.

Another resident, Michael Brown, also knew the family and said he “couldn’t put words together” as he was in shock.

Dozens of police officers and paramedics swarmed the area after the shooting.

Rusell had a partner and six children. However, according to Hellen, he had left them with her and lived with his aunt in Seven Hills. The deceased’s mother told The New Zealand Herald that she was upset and did not know what to do about her son’s death.

Rusell’s family expressed that they were heartbroken by his death. The members described him as a good person. Previously, his house got burned down in Walgett, but the police allegedly tried to hold him accountable for the damage.

His aunt, who was upstairs during the shootout, heard gunshots and immediately called Hellen.

The family of Mr Russell say they are devastated by the death of the 45-year-old, who was described as a good man with problems that led to run-ins with police and time in prison.
