The United Nation’s Special Representative in Somalia Michael Keating has eulogized the Ugandan soldiers from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), who lost their lives in an ambush on Sunday.
Keating in his message which was delivered by the UN spokesperson Stephanie Dujarric expressed deepest condolences to the families and colleagues of the soldiers who were ambushed during a regular patrol to secure the Mogadishu-Barawe Main Supply Route which still harbors pockets of Al-Shabaab insurgents.
The soldiers were killed by Al-Shabaab militants, 12 AMISOM soldiers lost their lives while seven others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
Additionally, Ambassador Francisco Madeira the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia said that the courage, sacrifice, commitment and bravery of AMISOM troops show in restoring peace in Somalia is recognized and appreciated by every state member of the African Union.
“The African Union Mission appreciates and honor’s the heroes whose lives have been lost while pursuing peace and stability in Somalia. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of our fallen soldiers, the people and government of Uganda,” Ambassador Madeira stated.
