A top City businessman arrested by flying squad operatives has pinned top security chiefs to be behind top city gun robberies, we have exclusively been informed.
The suspect is Herbert Masembe a resident of posh city suburbs of Muyenga Kampala.
Masembe possess both UK and Ugandan passports.
Herbert Muhangi the commander of flying squad said Masembe was arrested after intelligence reports linked him to be behind a number of city robberies.
“This man Masembe has been sending people to buy gold in Uganda and later connives with thugs and waylay them on the way and rob them before buying gold,” said Muhangi during an exclusive interview.
The flying boss further said after robbing millions, Masembe would fly back to UK to kill investigations.
“After gathering evidence from different people we started tracking his movements until we landed on him,” added Muhangi.
Muhangi explained that Masembe was arrested after he mobilized some people and robbed a foreigner of millions of shillings who had come to buy gold.
“After the robbery, we tracked his phones and found out that he was involved in the mission,” he said.
Suspect Pins Security Chiefs
Meanwhile our sources who interrogated Masembe revealed to us that he pinned top security chiefs to be behind the city robberies.
“I have been dealing with top security chiefs to conduct these robberies,” our source who interrogated him at Nalufenya told us.
The source added that Masembe told them that he has been bringing deals and security officers would provide man power and guns to complete the mission would late share the loot.
The sources however declined to reveal the particulars of the security chiefs saying their positions would interfere in their investigations.
“Some of the officers who were mentioned have higher ranks and if we mention them at this stage, they may interfere and kill our investigations,” said another source that is part of investigations.
Flying squad commandant confirmed the development when contacted for a comment on the alleged involvement of security chiefs in city robberies.
“It is true Masembe mentioned some security chiefs in robberies but we are going to investigate them,” he said adding that he couldn’t mention them at the moment.
Muhangi said Masembe will appear in court as soon as judges resume work.
