Manchester United are back to winning ways in the Premier League!
There were major questions asked of Manchester United when they surprisingly lost 2-1 at Huddersfield last week.
Since then, Manchester United have responded in fine fashion.
Manchester United saw off Swansea in the Carabao Cup thanks to a brace by Jesse Lingard.
Anthony Martial struck the winner for Manchester United as they snatched a 1-0 win from Tottenham at Old Trafford to cement second place in the Premier League.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s breakaway effort secured an identical result in this fixture last season after Spurs had dominated possession and it was a similar story here as Mauricio Pochettino’s men struggled without injured talisman Harry Kane.
The England man was absent with a hamstring injury, Pochettino choosing Son Heung-min over Fernando Llorente in attack, but Pep Guardiola’s branding of Spurs as “the Harry Kane team” may be revisited after they failed to break down United’s stiff defence.
At the very end of the Manchester United win over Spurs, Jose Mourinho pulled out a shush gesture which was caught by the cameras at Old Trafford.
A screenshot of the Jose Mourinho gesture can be seen here:
Of course, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was asked about his gesture at full time of the win over Spurs by the media in the press conference.
Mourinho explained the gesture by playing it down: “Some people speak too much, calm down, relax a little bit.”
When pushed further on who the gesture was aimed at, perhaps the “Einsteins” that Mourinho has railed against before, Mourinho refused to give anything away.
Mourinho confirms the gesture was not aimed at Mauricio Pochettino
Mourinho added: “Relax a little bit, don’t be so nervous. Be excited. Calm down, calm down a little bit.”
Finally, Mourinho says “We beat a very good team, I like the team very much”. Which is high praise for Spurs, albeit after a disappointing defeat.
