Hundreds of upcountry bound passengers stranded at various Kampala bus parks amid hiked fares. This is Qualicel Bus Terminal

During the festive season, people who work and reside in Kampala travel to their ancestral homes to celebrate Christmas with their relatives and as a consequence, most bus operators use this opportunity to hike prices.

When Business guide visited Kisenyi and Qualicel bus terminals where most buses travelling to the countryside park, it found out that transport charges for people travelling from Kampala to Kabale has increased from the usual Shs25,000 and Shs30,000 to between Shs 40,000 and Shs50,000.

Buses going to Kasese District and Bwera town, which lies on the Uganda-DR Congo board have increased fares from Shs30,000 to between Shs35,000 and Shs50,000 while buses transporting people to Fort Portal have increased transport charges from Shs25,000 to Shs40,000.

From Kampala to Mbale, travelers are charged Shs35,000 from Shs20,000 while people travelling to Soroti are charged Shs40,000.
Buses to Moroto District have increased transport fares from Shs40,000 to Shs45,000 while buses going to Gulu and Lira have increased from Shs25,000 to Shs35,000.
