Lester Piggott, a nine-time Epsom Derby-winning jockey passed away at the age of 86. He had a son named Jamie Piggott. 

Son of legendary jockey Lester and younger brother to former jockey and racing pundit Tracy, Jamie Piggott comes from a rich heritage of horse-racing stock.

His father, Lester was a professional jockey player from the United Kingdom. He has won 30 Classics and was an 11-time Champion jockey in his career.

He was the first rider to be honored in the National Horsemanship Hall of Fame. Lester was rated as the twentieth century’s greatest jockey.

Lester retired in 1995, at the age of 58, and closed his incredible career with a success at Haydock Park, where he had won for the first time in 1948.

Meet Lester Piggott Son Jamie Piggott

Jamie Piggott was born to supportive parents Lester Piggott and Anna Ludlow.

The young jockey was also born into a family that have deep roots as jockeys and trainers, with Jamie’s great grandfather Ernest Piggott winning three Grand Nationals in 1912, 1918 and 1919 and his grandfather Keith Piggott riding a Champion Hurdle winner in 1939.

“It’s just my family to me. I feel very proud to look back and see the success that my ancestors and current family have enjoyed in the world of horse racing.”

He has been interested in Jockeying since his childhood days. Lester, his father, taught Jamie to be a successful Jockey shortly.

Jamie has learned from the best trainers in the world like Aidan O’Brien, Charlie Appleby, Gai Waterhouse, Wesley Ward, Roger Varian, and many more.

He recently appeared in the media and disclosed the sudden demise of his father Lester Piggott. As per him, Lester was admitted to a hospital in Bursinel, Switzerland.

Jamie Piggott Age Revealed

Jamie Piggott seemed to be in his mid-twenties. However, his exact date of birth is yet to be revealed.

He began racing horses from his father’s stable when he was eight years old. Jamie has already won a handful of trophies to date.

The 20-year-old from Newmarket in Suffolk, England, is currently based in Cashel, Co Tipperary, as during the racing season he works for trainer Aidan O’Brien and former National Hunt racing jockey and now trainer Tommy Stack.

“My father rode at Aidan’s yard, which is called Ballydoyle, about 40 years ago. At that time it was occupied by legendary trainer Vincent O’Brien. It’s a great honour to be riding somewhere with so much history, and the same place that my father shared in so much success,” says Jamie.

It was inevitable coming from a famous racing family with a father at the helm who was an 11-time champion and nine-time Derby winner riding more than 5,000 winners, that horses were to become Jamie’s great passion from an early age.

“I’ve always been involved with horses and horse racing. I learnt to ride growing up in Newmarket and first rode a racehorse out for trainer Rae Guest in my school holidays, when I was 12 years of age. I got some lessons on the basics of exercising racehorses from the instructors at the British racing school.”

Jamie started his career in racing yards before working for the world-famous Coolmore Stud and Voute Sales in the bloodstock industry.

James Delahooke, Ric Wylie, Johnny McKeever, Stuart Boman, and Mark Richards are just a few players he’s trained from and continues to work together with.

Who Is Jamie Piggott Wife?

Jamie Piggott hasn’t shared his marital status in media portals. As a result, there are no details about his wife.

Why Lester Piggott Was In Jail?

Lester Piggott was sentenced to three years in jail in1987 after being found guilty of tax fraud worth $3million.

Mr. Justice Farquharson, the judge of  Ipswich Crown Court ordered Lester to be sentenced to prison. He was taken to Norwich prison.

Lester Piggott was put in prison after failing to disclose £3.25 million in revenue and earnings to the Inland Revenue.
