Actress Andie MacDowell has revealed her secret of owning her salt-and-pepper locks in an interview with Vogue. She recently rocked her gray hair while appearing at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, but said that her managers tried to warn her off embracing her natural hair. However, it was her kids and George Clooney who inspired her.
“At the very beginning of quarantine, my hair started growing and every time my kids would see me, they kept telling me I looked badass with my gray hair,” MacDowell said, who has three kids with her ex-husband Paul Qualley.
She continued, “When I pulled it up in a bun, all you could see was the salt and pepper, which is what I am, you know, dark and silver.
I like to compare myself to George Clooney because why not? I’ve been saying for a while now it was time for me, personally, to make that transition because I felt like it was appropriate for my personality and just who I am.”
Andie MacDowell was born on 21 April 1958 in Gaffney, South Carolina, the United States.
Her father Marion St. Pierre MacDowell worked as a lumber executive, and her mother Pauline Johnston as a music teacher. She hails from a family of mixed ancestry, including English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh and French heritages.
The ‘Sex, Lies, and Videotape’ star is 63-years-old, who debuted in 1984’s ‘Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes’. She went on to explain to Vogue how she accepted changes in her look.
“During lockdown, I had a lot of downtime and became obsessed with Jack Martin, who did Jane Fonda’s hair. I shared those pictures with a lot of people going, ‘Hey, I want to do this.’ I got a job and very quickly I had to make up my mind about what I was going to do.
My managers had actually said to me, ‘It’s not time.’ And I said, ‘I think you’re wrong, and I’m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now. It’s time because in two years I’m going to be 65. If I don’t do it now, I won’t have the chance to be salt and pepper. I always wanted to be salt and pepper!’”
