Paul Merson is in awe of Tottenham forward Harry Kane for his ability as both a goalscorer and a creator, with many people impressed by the way he’s performed in both areas this season.
The striker has continued his usual brilliance in front of goal with 13 goals in 14 games for Spurs so far this campaign, with his team currently second in the Premier League table.
But his return of 10 assists is the real eye-catching stat, with Heung-Min Son the main beneficiary of the creativity he’s showing with some accurate passes.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is still deploying the England captain in his usual centre-forward position, but the player has taken it upon himself to drop deeper at times to impact games and he’s showing he’s much more than just a finisher.
Sky Sports pundit Merson has applauded the all-round game of Kane and believes he’s a special talent:
“Kane is playing sometimes as a No 9 and sometimes deeper as a 10 – and he’s world class at BOTH. He can play a 30-yard pass through the eye of a needle,” Merson told the Daily Star.
“Dennis Bergkamp was a great No 10. Alan Shearer was a great No 9. Ask them to do each other’s jobs and they’d struggle. Kane can do both. How many other players can do that?”
It’s not news to Spurs fans that Kane is quality in possession and can pick a pass, but the fact he’s now getting the end reward with assists to his name is something that has now grabbed the attention of others.
He is the leading figure for the North London club that is a big miss whenever he doesn’t play and it’s vital they try to keep him fully available throughout the entire season.
There is a lot of talk about 27-year-old Kane needing to win silverware and some suggest a transfer may be best for him, but Mourinho is desperate to win a trophy this season.
