Former Ibanda South MP, minister and Ugandan ambassador Deo K. Rwabiita has died at Kirudu Hospital, a subsidiary of Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.
At the age of 74, Rwabita died of diabetes last evening and was serving as the country’s ambassador to Belgium at the time of his death.
The brother says he had been bed ridden at his house in Ggaba, where doctors often visited him, before he was admitted when the situation worsened.
Mr Gratian described his departed brother as a person of great determination since childhood, and one that made a lot of accomplishments.
He lost the Ibanda parliamentary seat to the current minister of Karamoja Affairs Eng. John Byabagambi in the 2001 elections, before he joined diplomatic work, serving in a number of ambassadorial positions in Rome in Italy, Cyprus and the European Commission.
Ambassador Mugoya, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a short message about the distinct work of the deceased.
“The Diplomatic Service of Uganda is a very small community both of former and serving Officers. Amb. Rwabita was an important part of that Community who served his country with distinction,” he said.
“We offer our deepest condolences to his family.”
David Bigira, the Ibanda district councillor for elders termed Rwabita as developmental and passionate about educating young people, recalling that he was paying school fees for many youngsters, some of them attending foreign schools.
