Rangers are locked in a battle with Spartak Moscow for the capture of Croatian defender Nikola Katic.
The Ibrox club are poised to finalise a £3million deal for Brighton centre-half Connor Goldson this week.
But boss Steven Gerrard also has an interest in Katic, a former Under-21 international capped for the first time by Croatia’s senior side last May.
Croatian club Slaven Belupo are seeking a fee of around £2m for the 21-year-old.

And the defender’s agent Mladen Kliskinic will fly to Moscow tomorrow for talks with Russian giants Spartak.
Insisting no formal deal has yet been concluded with any club, however, a spokesman for Kliskinic told Sportsmail: ‘There was a representative from Glasgow Rangers in Croatia three weeks ago.
‘There is another story that Spartak Moscow are also interested. Mladen Kliskinic has booked a flight to go and speak to them on Tuesday.
‘But we are waiting for Slaven Belupo to confirm they’ve accepted a concrete offer. Until that happens nothing can be finalised.’ Goldson, meanwhile, is expected to become Gerrard’s fourth signing.
