In a management meeting held today, Wednesday, the management of Makerere University have proposed that the institution be reopened on January 2, to allow for the completion of the first semester.

“As management, we agreed to open the university on January 2, so as to compensate the lost time and allow students to sit for their exams. We also agreed that graduation takes place in early March. Students will break off for a one-week holiday before the second semester starts,” Mr Barnabas Nawangwe, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration said.

However according to Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu, all the university activities are set and regulated by the university council which is the supreme governing body.

“It is the work of the university council to consult and come up with the university running program which is put into practice by the management and other staff members, but as for now, we ought to wait from the council,” he added”.
