Inter Milan are set to make a bid for Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan after the player has hinted he would be keen to rejoin his former boss, Luciano Spalleti, at the San Siro.
Roma are not keen on selling one of their star players to a rival but are willing to listen to offers, particularly if they involve a player plus cash deal.
Inter finished just behind Roma in the league in fourth place and they are looking to strengthen their starting eleven having returned to the Champions League for the first time since 2012.
Radja Nainggolan is wanted by Inter Milan who are offering a player plus cash deal
Inter are closing in on a deal for Nainggolan but Roma director of football Monchi, wants his pick of the players in return, according to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport.
The fee being discussed is in the region of £35 million and Inter have reportedly offered Matias Vecino, Antonio Candreva and Joao Mario, with key stars like Marco Icardi invariably not for sale.
But Monchi is not keen on these three players and instead would prefer a move for one of the rising stars at the San Siro, like Marco Pompetti, Davide Bettealla or Andrea Pinamonti.
Nainggolan is keen on a potential move as he wants to rejoin his former boss Luciano Spalleti
Nainggolan is said to be keen on the move and his agent has been in talks with Inter Milan over a move to the San Siro for several weeks.
The Belgian wants to be reunited with his former boss Luciano Spalleti and with Roma agreeing to the terms of a swap and cash it looks like a deal could happen.
Nainggolan helped Roma to reach the Champions League semi-finals last year, including a remarkable turn around to beat Barcelona in the quarter-finals.
They crashed out to Liverpool in the following round though and soon after the midfielder found out Roberto Martinez has elected to leave out of Belgium’s World Cup squad.
