Thirteen people have been confirmed dead in an accident that happened along masaka road last night while eight are still in critical condition.

The accident happened last night at Lubanda trading centre, about 80meters from the operation Fika Salama traffic police check point, near River Katonga Bridge in Mpigi District.

According to Charles Ssebambulidde the traffic police spokesperson, this accident happened when the Fuso truck registration number UAH 970P rammed into the Tanzania bound Coaster, registration number T540 DLC.

He said that all the deceased have been confirmed to be Tanzanians national, while the driver of the track is in critical condition.

Most of the deceased were Gregory Teu the Mpwapwa Constituency MP also former Tanzania’s deputy works minister relatives.

The deceased were coming from a wedding party of their daughter, Dr Annette Ibingira and her husband Dr Treasurer Ibingira at Kampala Parents’ School.

Using the documents got from the wreckage, police identified some of the victims Dativa M. Shayo, Fred Haule, Esther Gorreth Teo, Einoth Laizer, Bonny Edmund Mgambo, Rehema G. Teo, Esther A. Muisigira, Edward Kimayo and Boniface Venance Kimayo who was found with a pistol in his waist.

The injured were taken to Nkozi Hospital and Double Cure Clinic to receive treatment but later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital while bodies of the deceased were taken to Gombe Hospital for postmortem.

The Katonga Region Police publicist Philip Mukasa said all the deceased were travelling in the coaster.

Tanzania President John Magufuli has sent his condolences to the family of his former Deputy Minister Gregory Teu

“I am extremely shocked and saddened by the reports of the loss of this large number of people. My sympathy to the family of Mr Gregory Teu for the loss, to the family members and all relatives who have been affected by the incident,” Magufuli said.

Magufuli further has urged all family members to be patient in this difficult time after the loss of their beloved relatives.
