President Yoweri k. Museveni has met with the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the African Union Heads of State Summit in Addis Ababa.
The two leaders discussed the security situation in the Great Lakes region, particularly the situation in DR Congo, South Sudan, Burundi and Somalia.
Uganda’s position remains to push for negotiations between the disagreeing factions in South Sudan, continue to develop sustainable peace in Somalia, and put an end to insecurity in Eastern DRC.
Concerning Burundi, President Museveni informed the UN Secretary General that H.E. Benjamin Mkapa has been leading the consultation process, and that this process will soon escalate to negotiations.
