The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has ordered the investigations of corruption which has been invaded the police force starting with the headquarters.
Kayihura said this during the passing out of police officers at Kigo in Wakiso district yesterday where he asked the Police Professional Standards Unit commander to undertake a full investigation to identify the bad apples starting with the police headquarters.
“The investigations will Start with the directorates of human resource development and logistics and engineering because these two departments have the biggest budgets in the force,” Kayihura said.
He added that there is a lot of laxity at station level and it was exemplified by the break-in at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) where he is convinced that it wasn’t a break-in but rather a connivance to steal guns.
A couple of days back, two AK47 guns and 60 bullets were stolen at Kampala Central Police Station While the guns were later recovered in Eastern Uganda.
Recently, in march this year, president Museveni revealed that criminals had infiltrated the Uganda Police Force which has compromised investigations ordering Gen Kayihura to “clean the police’’ of infiltrators and corrupt officers.
