The Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura has ordered the Police Standards Unit to investigate several officers for being involved in land grabbing and torture of tenants.

On Wednesday Kayihura and the state minister Persis Namuganza went to Balatira village in Kapeeka sub -county after receiving a petition from residents accusing local police officers of siding with some landlord in order to grab their land.

The officers who were singled out include Justus Asiimwe, the Nakaseke Police Commander, Christine Otai the Officer in charge of Kapeeka Police Post and their junior staff.

The mentioned police officers are accused of aiding Swaibu Yiga Mukasa to grab 1001 acres of land and harass the tenants who were found on the land.

Residents led by Nakaseke North Member of Parliament Luttamaguzi Ssemakula told IGP Kayihura that Yiga tortured a 15-year-old boy, Steven Mukumbya.

The disputed land is foubd in the villages of Balatira, Manywa, Senda, Naluvule, Mizimbo and Nzingu in Kapeeka sub- county.

Rozio Ssebuliba, another tenant on the disputed land, told IGP Kayihura that goons hired by Yiga and backed by Police beat him up for clearing a piece of land which Yiga wants to grab. Others told IGP Kayihura that whenever they report Yiga to Kapeeka Police station nothing is done.
