The Civil Aviation Authority have denied allegations by Dr, Kizza Besigye that Civil aviation officials were involved in his arrest as he landed at Entebbe International airport yesterday.

Dr Besigye at a press conference at his home in Kasangati, Wakiso District yesterday alleged that he was grabbed by the people who were putting of uniforms the aviation authority, and the vehicle they used to whisk him away also belonged to Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.

In a statement issued by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority today, through their Principle Public affairs  officer Vianney Luggya, the Authority has dimised all the allegations bestowed on the authority saying that all personnel authorized to access the airside are required to put on reflector jackets most of which are owned and branded by CAA at the back. hence it does not mean that any persons wearing the jackets are officials or staff of CAA since their uniforms have CAA logo

Relating to the same event, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the police spokesperson said that it was police that picked Kizza Besigye from from the Plane.

“We picked him (Besigye) as he was exiting the (airport) arrival lounge shortly after he landed and safely escorted him to his home in Kasangati,” said Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the police spokesperson.
He added: “The arrest was necessary because we had intelligence that his followers were planning to cause chaos along Entebbe road and as police, we could not allow that. It’s part of our duty to prevent crime.”

The manner in which Kizza Besigye was arrested on his return from UK has been also condemned by the opposition Members of Parliament.

Winnie Kizza the leader of opposition in parliament says the way Besigye was arrested was humanizing and not proper for a person of his caliber.
