Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders in greater Masaka region have held what they called a farewell party for President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 2021 general elections.

The mock party was held on today, Friday at Hotel La Nova in Masaka Municipality. The FDC leaders also called some Members of Parliament warning them against amending Article 102 of the constitution to scrap presidential age limit capped at 75.

The group led by Joseph Ssenzoga, the Greater Masaka region FDC General secretary carried red placards warning President Museveni against getting tempted to contest again in 2021 general elections.

Some of the red placards carried words such as “Your Time is up, beyond 75 you are expired, you go back to Rwakitura. Others placards carried words such as “Since you are not a servant of Uganda, what are you still doing in State House? Go Home” among others.

They have also authored letters to all members of parliament from the region asking them to pronounce themselves on reports that they plan to remove presidential age limit from the constitution.

Currently, Article 102(b) of the constitution provides for 35 and 75 as the minimum age and maximum age respectively for a person standing for the highest office. However, there are reports Members of Parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM plan to scrap off that clause to allow President Museveni, who in 2021 will have been in power for 35 years, to contest again.

Robert Tumwesigye, a Member of the Democratic Party says they have lined up 32 reasons why President Museveni should not rule beyond 202. Copies of the write-up have been sent to Members of Parliament, religious leaders and opinions leaders.
