President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expressed delight on learning that the members of NRM Central Region NRM Women’s league are into paper making , fishing and mushroom growing.
“I urge you to work with Makerere University and the Uganda Industrial Research Institute to add value to the mushrooms,” he said.
The government will give you machines to make paper bags. The research institute will help you with this to diversify your products.”
His Excellency made these remarks as the Central Region NRM Women’s League leadership and entrepreneurship conference was drawn to its close today at St. Lawrence, London College, Wakiso.
Mr. Museveni expressed thanks to Wakiso Woman MP, Rose Seninde, for this initiative. He furthermore made reference to the Parable of the Sower in the bible, “Hon Seninde is like the seed that fell on fertile soil.”
She has created an awakening among women and I am glad to be part of it.”
President Museveni noted that the women in the central region have been trained on commercial agriculture and small-scale entrepreneurship. Citing that the two; agriculture and industry, are part of the bigger four including; services and Information Communication Technology, that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has emphasized as the route to wealth creation.
“Whereas our focus has been on the four-acre model, it is possible to still make a decent income with even smaller pieces of land.
“For example, an acre of onions can fetch you Shs28 million in a year,” he added.
He concluded: “I am glad that these women have now become disciples of the gospel to eradicate poverty. Let your light shine, so that the world will see your good deeds and thank the NRM.”
