Law makers have dismissed with contempt, information that government has deposited Sh100 million on their personal bank accounts.
This follows media reports that the parliamentary committee had wired 100 million shillings on each of the legislators bank account as part of the Sh 200 million meant for vehicles.
Margret Mbeiza Kaliro MP says she went to the bank to check on her account but found no money. ” I need this money urgently to purchase the vehicle to facilitate my activities in my constituency” she said.
The media had reported on how speaker Rebecca Kadaga took a decision to suppress undisclosed items within the Parliamentary Commission budget to raise part of the money for vehicles. The money for the MPs’ vehicles was not budgeted for on grounds that the Parliamentary Commission had “overshot” its budget ceiling.
Most law makers including Kilak South’s Gilbert Olanya, Joshu Anywarach of Padyere County and Francis Mwijukye of Buhweju County also say they did not see any money when they checked their accounts.
