Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for Anthony Martial but are keen not to sell the Frenchman to a rival in England.

Martial, 22, has endured a tough year at United, with his last goal coming in January.

Earlier this month he was omitted from the France squad for the World Cup and his career would appear to be at a crossroads.

Sportsmail understands that the Old Trafford club are open to letting Martial leave but would prefer he goes abroad for fear that a move to a Premier League rival could come back to haunt them.

Chelsea are known suitors and Jose Mourinho’s interest in their playmaker Willian could facilitate a switch to London.

But Old Trafford officials would prefer that Martial, who joined in 2013 from Monaco for a fee that could rise to £58m, heads overseas.

Clubs in Italy have been sounded out, although wages of around £65,000 a week would appear to be a stumbling block for many.

Napoli are admirers of the winger, but his salary is well outside their range and a substantial cut in wages is unlikely for a player with a year and an option of another left on his contract in Manchester.

Juventus, armed with more financial clout, are also thought to be monitoring the situation while Tottenham Hotspur remain an interested party.
