JOSE MOURINHO has confirmed Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick have all been ruled out of Manchester United’s festive fixtures.

The trio have been hit by injuries just as United look to claw back Manchester City’s 11 point lead at the top of the Premier League.

The players will miss games against Leicester, Burnley and Southampton.

Mourinho is already having to work without defender Eric Bailly who underwent surgery on his ankle injury on Friday and is out for two to three months.

United go into Saturday’s game on the back of a shock 2-1 defeat to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

And their preparations were hampered by fog grounding their private plane on Wednesday which meant taking a bus back to Manchester and not arriving until 5am on Thursday.

Mourinho said: “Of course, for the game at Bristol we changed a lot of the players, so we managed to give a rest to many of them and especially to the lucky ones that did not travel.

“Because the ones that did travel, even some who did not play, arrived back in Manchester close to 5am. People like Mata or Smalling, who were on the bench, had to travel back.”
