Under the theme “involving the youths for quality healthcare”, Kansanga based University Kampala international University [KIU] has decided to give back to both the students and the community at large through free health services.
The health camp as organized by the University is slated to start today, 7th of September 2017 as revealed by the DVC finance of KIU Miss Janice Busingye.
Busingye said that many Ugandans do not believe in preventive care but rather only wait for the time when they are sick and get to the hospitals to be treated.
“We should change our mindset and get to know our status always” Said Busingye.
She went ahead to elucidate that the health camp shall take place for three consecutive days where free voluntary HIV testing and counceling, cancer screening [breast and cervical], diabetes, dental and eye care as well as many more.
“With help from the health advocacy group, the university is committed towards serving the community” Said Busingye.
The project coordinator of the health advocacy group Mr. James Odeke said that youths make over 70% of the total population which needs allot of concentration in terms of health.
Here he noted that they have a target of 3000 people who shall be tested and once one is found positive in any disease, he or she shall be referred to a bigger hospital or the KIU Ishaka hospital.
It is on this note that he thanked KIU for concentrating on the medical school as it is the only private university with a teaching hospital in the country.
