Just hours after appearing before the commission of inquiry into land, the Uganda Police boss Gen. Kale Kayihura has suspended four of his officers who were involved in the illegal evictions of traders and demolition of a government property in Jinja Municipality.
The property in question is a building that sat on plots 60-62 Aldina Road in Jinja where traders had been conducting their businesses for over 48 years.
The building was illegally demolished and the land taken by Birus Properties Limited, a company owned by Movit Products Limited boss Simpson Birungi.
Birungi reportedly bribed the suspended officers and prompted them to act against the law and thereby rendering traders jobless.
Yesterday when the IGP appeared before the commission he noted that he does not need two weeks to act but rather to produce a report on the culpable officers.
We wait to see if the suspended officers shall be punished administratively, criminally or disciplinary.
The traders who had occupied the building had shown interest of buying the property at over sh86m but Birungi took it at just sh2.3m.
