In a handwritten letter to all units,the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kale Kayihura has today appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police Assan Kasingye as the new Police spokesperson, replacing the slain Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi who was last Friday gunned down while leaving his home.
Before his appointent, Kasingye, has been the Assistant Inspector General of Police and Director of INTERPOL and International Relations in Uganda.
In this new appointment, Gen. Kale Kayihura, also appointed Kasingye the new the Chief Police Commissar.
Before Kasingye’s appointment, the Director of Operations Asuman Mugyenyi was serving in acting capacity as the Force’s spokesperson.
Kasingye has been serving as the Director of International Police and Peace Support (Interpol).
According to the hand written memo circulated to directors and heads of department in the police, the changes are with “immediate effect”.
Kasingye becomes only the second officer at the level of Assistant Inspector General Police to take over the docket of police spokesperson after Kaweesi, whose term was cut short following his murder last week
