All entrances to the ministry are currently manned by police anti-terrorism officers with no one allowed access. Several people who were attempting to pick cars from the parking yard were also blocked.

Fire on Sunday gutted the ministry of health offices in Wandegeya, Kampala.

Eye witnesses say the fire started from the third floor at about 2:30pm and affected two other offices, which according to the Under Secretary in Charge of Finance and Administration, Mr Ronald Ssegawa Gyagenda, “are not really strategic”..
Police are yet to establish the cause of the fire which destroyed unspecified property.


The police later updated on the situation, saying the fire “burnt to ashes quite many offices”, which included:

Store for procurement
Office of health promotions
Office of sec quality assurance
Quality assurance office
Commissioner quality assurance office
Assistant commissioner quality assurance office
Assistant commissioner child health office, and
Secretary child health office
All these offices were on the same floor.

Godfrey Okobbo, the acting commissioner of fire and rescue services, said five offices were affected and stuff like documents and computers were destroyed.

Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Emilian Kayima said the fire started from a kitchen area on the last floor.
“Our fire brigade and Rescue Services Teams contained the fire. An assortment of files and other items destroyed. It is considered a crime scene. Cause of fire to be established and actual level of damage. All info will be given when received from the authorities and experts handling the situation,” he said.
