- Ndejje University 1-0 Paidha Black Angels
Ndejje University Football Club secured their second victory in the 2018-19 Uganda Premier League, beating fellow newly promoted entity, Paidha Black Angels 1-0 at the Arena of Visions in Luweero on Tuesday.
Former JMC Hippos forward Anwar Ntege was the hero with the priceless goal, a penalty in the early stages of the well contested duel.
Before the goal, the visitors would have taken the lead through the vastly traveled center forward Julius Malingumu, just two minutes into the game.
Malingumu who formerly played at KJT Rwenshama, Vipers, BUL and rcently had a spell in Somalia missed a chance from close range, blasting the ball over from an acute angle with only the goal at his mercy.
Three minutes into the game, Ntege, too was a culprit of squandering a half chance on the other side.
The home side exerted early pressure inside the opening ten minutes, winning a free-kick 25 yards away from goal that midfielder Simon Ngore curled high before Dickens Kilama missed a glaring one against one incident with goalkeeper John Kalumba to beat.
Come the 10th minute, defender Brian Okumu brought down Noel Nasasira (on loan from KCCA) in the forbidden area and FIFA Referee Alex Muhabi did not hesitate pointing to the penalty spot as a reprimand.
Ntege made no mistake, beating goalkeeper Kalumba for the opening goal after 11 minutes.
Ndejje University’s goalkeeper Derrick Emukule was faster off his line to thwart away a dangerous cross from the left by Malingumu.
Twenty minutes later, Paidha Black Angels nearly got the equalizer through their skipper Cromwell Rwothomio but the Ndejje University goalkeeper Emukule was equal to the task as he parried the curling free-kick out for a fruit-less corner kick.
In the 36th minute, Malingumu missed another chance to find Paidha’s equalizer when he blew high a rebounded effort from Sula Ssekamwa’s poorly cleared free-kick.
Five minutes to the half time break, Ndejje University defender Steven Akena was cautioned for unsporting display before the half time break with Ndejje University in the lead 1-0.
Come to the second stanza of the game, the visitors kicked off an hungrier side.
Paidha Black Angels called for the first change on the cloudy evening.
Jerry Adebu replaced Okumu six minutes into the second half. Three minutes later former Vipers forward Emmanuel Wasswa came on for Paul Ddumba.
Two minutes after the hour mark, Dickson Galabuzi replaced Jackson Nsubuga for Paidha Black Angels’ second change on the day.
Cromwel missed target from an acute angle with a shot over the bar off an acute angle in the 62nd minute.
Francis Onekalit took over the place for the wasteful Kilama on 66 minutes.
Later in the second half, Ngore got cautioned for a wild challenge on Rwothomio.
As a precaution, the Ndejje University technical bench led by head coach Raymond Komakech called off the booked Ngore for Robert Eseru in the 85th minute.
At the same time, Patrick Arua came on for Malingumu as the Blacks pushed on for a killer that never arrived.
Ndejje University thus earned their second win in the league, the first having arrived on match day one over Mbarara City.
Paidha Black Angels on the other hand, suffered their third loss in five matches.
