Liverpool produced a devastating display of attacking football to claim a comprehensive 4-0 win over a ragged Arsenal side at Anfield.

Goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in a dominant first-half display set up victory before Mohamed Salah and substitute Daniel Sturridge completed the rout.

The Gunners were swept aside with embarrassing ease and, were it not for several good saves from Petr Cech, their defeat could have been even more humiliating.

Arsene Wenger was interviewed on Sky Sports after the match, here is a transcript of what he had to say:

Were you fortunate to only be 2-0 down at half-time and how shocked were you at the superiority that Liverpool were enjoying?

“Well I would say of course it was shocking but I thought our performance on the day was absolutely disasterous.”

What do you put that down to? There seemed to be a lack of effort and desire from you players, would you agree with that?

“It is not to become too emotional after the game, the disappointment is big enough. We need to take a little bit of distance. There are some reasons behind it which we will of course have to analyse but we must now focus on the international break. We have to take the consequence of our performance today.”

Happy with the effort?

“If you find the manager happy after a performance like that then I wish him good luck.”

There’s a way to be beaten?

“The emotions are very big and very negative but it isn’t the right moment to talk about that.”

Once again the type of performance to let Arsenal down again, the lack of fight in a big game?

“Well as I said before the game we have recently done well in the big games. That is why today is more disappointing than the perfromance.”

What are the consequences of a performance like this?

“The consequences are that the confidence level drops and we have lost two alway games but we need to keep believing and focus.”

Once again sections of the crowd chanting Wenger Out, what does that do?

“We I don’t want to answer that that is part of the crowds feeling of some people. If I am the problem then I am the problem. I am sorry that I am the problem. I believe we should all be together when we lose and we want our fans to be together when we lose, even in a performance like that. The only thing we can do is come back and give them a better level of performance.”

Another thing you can do is the transfer window closes this week. After today do you need to think about who stays and who goes?

“No, we think a lot about that. Just after a performance like that isn’t the right time to talk about that.”
