Fish price this time round is expected to stay at the normal prices after fishermen coming back from villages over the Christmas season.
This was a statement issued by the head of Mulungu Landing site in Munyonyo Mrs Daisy Mabeere as she met the press over the reason as to why the fish was both scarce and highly priced during the Christmas period.
Mrs. Mabeere says that during the Christmas period, most of the fishermen had gone to their villages to see their beloved ones, which reduced on the number of the fish that was produced at the lakes. She adds that the fishermen were very few and could not out compete the number of customers who were coming to buy the fish. This hiked the prices high that a fish one could buy at a price of UGX 10,000 ended up being doubled to a UGX20,000
When we spoke to the fisher men they said that they expected a lot of customers since this is the right time that people have the money.
However one of them under the names of Batte Meddi says that he is worried about January since everything is going to be so scarce. Batte adds that this is even seen on the current price of sugar which has not yet changed ever since the minister Amelia Kyambadde commanded the reduction.
The security of the place is so tight that at immediately 6:00pm all people are chased from water and only qualified fishermen are allowed.
Beers are still at a price of UGX 3000 per bottle, a price that they do not intend to increase unless otherwise.
