The Turkish Competition Board has fined Google 482 million lira (approximately $25 million) for failing to comply with its earlier decisions regarding the company’s local search services. The Board found that Google’s local search services, as previously implemented, did not incorporate hotel inquiries as required.

The Board had previously instructed Google to rectify this issue, but the company reportedly failed to do so. As a result, the Board has imposed a daily fine equivalent to five ten-thousandths of Google’s projected 2023 revenues until the company complies with the Board’s decisions.

The fines will continue until Google fulfills its obligations and integrates hotel inquiries into its local search services. The Board’s actions underscore its commitment to enforcing competition regulations and protecting consumer interests in the digital marketplace.
This decision comes amid the Turkish Competition Authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure fair competition in the digital space.

The Authority has also recently fined Meta (formerly Facebook) 4.8 million lira per day for failing to provide sufficient documentation as part of a previous antitrust investigation.
