The Oakland Fire Department were summoned for a medical emergency and declared Cloud “already deceased” on arrival.
On the last days of his life, he had been mourning the death of his father, whose funeral he had attended in Ireland a week earlier. Although many of Cloud’s fans speculated that he may have killed himself, or that there was foul play, his mother objected saying, “We may find out that he overdosed accidentally and tragically, but it’s abundantly clear that he did not intend to check out of this world.”
On September 21, 2023, it was confirmed by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office that Cloud died from “acute intoxication” from the “combined effects of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and benzodiazepines”, and that the manner of death was accidental.
