Who is Vivek Ramaswamy?
Born to Indian Hindu immigrant parents to US, Vivek Ganapathy Ramaswamy is an American entrepreneur and a candidate in the 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries.
The 37-year-old Ramaswamy was born in Cincinnati, he graduated from Harvard College with a biology degree, and then from Yale Law School.
Ramaswamy founded the biopharmaceutical company Roivant Sciences in 2014, after working as an investment partner at a hedge fund.
Since 2020, he has written and spoken out against stakeholder theory, according to which a company’s managers should be guided by the morals and values of its stakeholders, and has criticized Big Tech and critical race theory.
After leaving Roivant in 2021, Ramaswamy co-founded and has served as executive chairman of Strive Asset Management, an investment firm opposed to investing its assets in companies according to their environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) policies.
After Senator Rob Portman announced his retirement, there was media speculation that Ramaswamy would run in the 2022 election to succeed him, but he ultimately declined. In February 2023, Ramaswamy declared his candidacy for the Republican Party’s nomination for president in the 2024 election.
