Liv Hovde is an American tennis player who became the second American to win Wimbledon Unions in about 30 years.
Liv Hovde won the girls’ singles championship at Wimbledon on Saturday, becoming just the second American to win the title at the All England Club in the past 30 years.
Following her victory against fortunate loser Ana Candiotto of Brazil in the second round of the Junior Championships at Wimbledon, American Liv Hovde is enjoying her position as the top seed in the girls’ bracket.
Claire Liu was the last American girl to win the title, in 2017.
In the girls’ doubles final, Angella Okutoyi of Kenya and Rose Marie Nijkamp of the Netherlands beat Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko of Canada 3-6, 6-4 (11-9).
In the boys’ doubles final, Sebastian Gorzny and Alex Michelsen of the United States defeated Gabriel Debru and Paul Inchauspe of France 7-6 (5), 6-3.
After winning two championships and making it all the way to the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros Junior Championships, Hovde has had a really encouraging season, achieving a career-high No. 6 in the girls’ rankings. Does Liv Hovde Have A Wikipedia?
Liv has a Wikipedia to her name. However, there is little information about the rising tennis star on the page. She is an American tennis player.
Hovde has a career-high ITF combined ranking of 4 on the junior tour, attained on July 4, 2022. She won the 2022 Wimbledon girls’ singles title, advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Australian Open girls’ singles, and quarterfinals of the 2022 French Open girls’ singles.
Six of the past nine females to finish first at the Wimbledon warm-up competition went on to win at SW19, making this year’s J1 Roehampton victory one of the titles won by Hovde.
Interestingly, J1 Roehampton’s honor roll has some notable names; recent winners include Belinda Bencic, Jelena Ostapenko, and Coco Gauff. Hovde is encouraged by her most recent triumph and keeps some illustrious company.
Hovde has revealed that she is very excited to be at the peak of her career and has promised she has a lot of potential in-store.
At this time last year, Hovde’s junior ranking was No. 173 in the world. She entered this past week at No. 4 in the junior rankings, and will likely jump up even more after her success this past week in England.
She has steadily been ranked inside the top 10 for most of the year with her No. 4 ranking being her career high. She also entered the WTA rankings in March and is currently the No. 1000-ranked women’s tennis player in the world.
“I just hope to be the best that I can be,” Hovde said.
Coached by Australian star
Hovde started training with Phil Dent at his family’s tennis academy in Keller when she was around 11 or 12 years old.
Dent is a former elite tennis player himself. He won the 1975 Australian Open double titles and 1976 U.S. Open mixed doubles title. In total, the native of Australia won 25 doubles titles. He reached No. 17 in the world and won three singles titles. He made the finals of the 1974 Australian Open, losing to Jimmy Connors.
“Phil Dent has had an incredible and very special influence on her,” Mitchell said. “She’s been very lucky to have had him for the years that they’ve been together as a team.”
Who Are Liv Hovde Parents? Her Family Explored
Hovde (pronounced Huv-DEE) was born in Minnesota and spent the first decade of her life in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Her family moved from their home in North Oaks, Minn., to McKinney when she was about 10 years old.
Both her parents grew up in the state and they still have strong ties to the area, but they have embraced the North Texas region. Her mother, Michelle Mitchell, said that most tennis players at her level wouldn’t stay in the area. But she said the local tennis community has been such a good influence on Hovde’s career.
“I don’t see a better place for her,” Mitchell said.
Hovde’s mother and traveling companion, Michelle Mitchell, has stressed the need of broadening her daughter’s perspectives on her “amazing” trip by taking her to see the Mona Lisa in Paris, for example.
Her mother is her motivator and she always makes sure her daughter is always good. She is also very proud of how far Hovde has come in her career at such a young age. Michelle takes great pride in her daughter’s accomplishments.
Michelle explained that even though Liv is a tennis player and most of her time is occupied training and prepping, she still takes her daughter to do some fun stuff after like sightseeing and others so she can grow as a person too and not just as an athlete.
