He was freed from the Stryker Correctional Institute after paying a $1000 cash bond. Zimbeck was charged with aggravated murder in Fulton County.

Hill was last seen alive after a Halloween party in Swanton, Ohio, on Oct. 25, 1985, according to reports from The Blade newspaper in Toledo. Her nude body was found four days later by a deer hunter in a wooded area. The coroner later ruled that she was beaten to death, possibly by an object like a tire iron.

Hill, a sophomore at Swanton High School, had talked about wanting to become a teacher and her dream was to work with disabled students.

Zimbeck was her ex-boyfriend at the time and was immediately considered a suspect, VanGunten said. Interest in him waned, however, after he cooperated with police and even passed a polygraph test.

Decades passed before Zimbeck was again actively investigated as a suspect in Hill’s death, she said. He was arrested over the summer after police said that new evidence tied him to the crime, but VanGunten maintains the case was plagued by botched police work from the start.

Furthermore, the details said Lori was raped and beaten with an iron instrument. Hill’s family has also spent the last two decades gathering $50,000 as a reward and appearing on national talk shows in order to continue their search for Lori Ann’s killer.

Walter Zimbeck, of Kodak was arrested three months after  the slaying of 14-year-old Lori Ann Hill and was jailed in Ohio pending trial on the murder charges.

But Zimbeck’s court-appointed attorney, Amber VanGunten, said that a comparison of Zimbeck’s DNA with evidence found at the crime scene 24 years ago has effectively ruled him out as a suspect.

“This case is absolutely ridiculous,” she said. “There’s no other proof. I don’t understand why they are still pursuing the charges at this time. I have not been presented any further DNA evidence, and most of it was unfortunately lost.”
