Luis Mejia Hernandez, a senior at Alexandria City High School, was killed in a fight Tuesday. Police are asking the public for tips.
Alexandria City Public Schools has identified the teenager stabbed to death during a large fight near Alexandria City High School on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place on Tuesday, and the police were informed about the brawl at the shopping center around 12.30 pm. A teenager was stabbed during the dispute and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Later the teenager died during the treatment and was identified as Luis Mejia Hernandez, a senior student at Alexandria City High School.
Hernandez’s death marks the city’s second homicide of 2022. A teenager was also killed in an attempted carjacking in Potomac Yard earlier this month.
Luis Mejia Hernandez Stabbed And Killed At A Brawl In Bradlee Shopping Center
According to Alexandria City High School Executive Principal Peter Balas, Luis Mejia Hernandez, a senior at Alexandria City High School, has been identified as the victim.
“Today, the administrative and support teams met with teachers and staff who work with Luis. In addition, the administration met with all ACHS staff at the end of the school day to discuss the incidents of the day,” Balas said in an email to Alexandria City High School families.
“On behalf of the entire Titan staff, I would like to express our deepest condolences and sympathies to Luis’ family and loved ones. Luis will be deeply missed, and will always and forever be a Titan,” he continued.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., Alexandria police said they responded to a large group fight in the 3600 block of King Street. During the fight, police said Hernandez was critically injured and taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Luis Mejia Hernandez is an 18-year-old teenager who was stabbed and killed at a brawl that took place in the parking lot of the Bradlee Shopping Center.
The fight took place around midday outside a McDonald’s at the Bradlee Shopping Center, and there were 30 to 50 people seen during the fight. One of the witnesses, David Davis, saw the brawl from outside one of the shops.
He saw a group of five students chatting around the Starbucks and a young man coming into the group. Similarly, in less than five minutes, he saw a group of youths gathering at the bus stop.
Then eventually things started to get tense, and a quarrel started from the bus stop to the parking lot where the young boy got stabbed. He also revelead that once the police arrived all the high school students quickly dispersed from the scene.

The fight involved 30 to 50 people happened outside a McDonald’s at the Bradlee Shopping Center in the 3600 block of King Street, police told The Washington Post.
Balas said ACHS is working to put support measures in place for our students and staff with the ACPS Department of Student Services and Equity and the Department of Human Resources.
He shared his condolence and the sad news in a letter news to the school community. He also shared that Luis was one of Titan’s seniors from the Class of 2022. Furthermore, he added Luis will be greatly missed by the Titan community.
The school has made classes virtual for Wednesday to give time, and space to grieve for the loss of one of their student.
