One witness stated he was having lunch at the restaurant when he heard gunshots in the neighborhood. People became terrified and began racing around the place.

According to Jay Rathman, a frequent customer at the restaurant and a close friend of the victim, a former employee turned up at the cafe and shot a waiter.

Later, authorities confirmed that Angel and the former employee had a falling out. The suspect fled the scene but got apprehended around 6 p.m. The suspect’s gun was recovered, and he is expected to face first-degree murder charges.

Det. Ali Adamson of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said, “The situation was dangerous, but we got it all under control quickly.”

According to Peter Lopez, the restaurant’s director of operations, a former and a current employee were involved. A witness who did not want to be identified said it all started when the two engaged in a heated argument at the restaurant’s tiki bar.

“I told the guys to, ‘Take it down!’ You know what I mean? Customers were starting to pay attention and it was getting a little rowdy, so I said, ‘Can you take it to the end of the bar?’ I go inside the building and I come back and I see one running — the other one down, fighting for his life.”
