Tammel Esco – Man Punches, Stomps, and Racially Insults Asian Women
A 67-year-old Asian woman was returning home Friday evening when she saw the suspect, whom police identified as Tammel Esco, 42, in front of her building. Esco allegedly used the racial slur “Asian b*tch,” as she passed him, police said in the release.
In the Friday incident, the victim ignored Esco and entered the vestibule of her apartment building, according to the police. But as she attempted to open the second door to enter the lobby, Esco allegedly approached her from behind and punched her in the head, knocking her to the floor, the release said.
The victim was punched more than 125 times in the head and face and stomped on several times as seen in the CCTV footage released by the Yonkers Police Department.
The members of the Yonkers Police Department received a call from an apartment building at around 6 pm local time. The call was about an injured woman who was bleeding. The suspect was in front of the location.
“Upon arrival, officers located the victim, an elderly female, in the vestibule of the building with severe facial injuries; she was transported to a local area trauma center. The suspect was located outside the building and placed into custody without incident”, the Police stated.
The CCTV Footage:
The terrible footage shows the woman falling to the ground, with her attacker continuing to repeatedly punch her after she’s down and bleeding.
She suffered bleeding of the brain, facial fractures, and multiple lacerations to the head and face, Westchester County prosecutors said in a release.
She was listed in stable condition at an area hospital.
“Our hearts are broken for the victim,” Westchester DA Mimi Roach said in a statement.
Esco is charged with attempted murder and assault in the second degree involving a victim 65 or older, online court records show. Each count is charged as a hate crime, according to the release.
Esco’s next court date is slated for March 25.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said in the release he expects the suspect to be charged to the fullest extent possible for his “heinous actions.”
Yonkers is a city of more than 211,000 people in the New York City suburbs, about 17 miles north of Manhattan
Mike Spano, the Mayor of Yonkers, said in the release that “hate crimes are beyond intolerable in the city”. The suspect is to be charged to the fullest extent of the law for his heinous actions, he added.
“This is one of the most appalling attacks I have ever seen; to beat a helpless woman is despicable and targeting her because of her race makes it more so. This defendant must be held to the maximum punishment allowed by law to send a clear message that hateful, violent behavior will not be tolerated in our communities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family, that she may make a full recovery”, Commissioner John J Mueller said in the release.
Esco was charged with attempted murder and assault. He was remanded in the Westchester County Jail, and his next court hearing is on March 25.
