A security guard assigned to a San Francisco Bay Area intelligence team died Saturday after being killed in a robbery attempt three days earlier, police said.
Kevin Nishita was working safely for a news team Wednesday afternoon that covered a story in downtown Oakland when someone tried to rob the troop and Nishita was killed, according to Oakland police.
The shooting happened near the intersection of 14th and Harrison..
He was rushed to Highland Hospital where died Saturday morning from his injuries.
Nishita was highly respected and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind a wife, two children, and three grandchildren.

San Francisco news broadcaster KRON4 said Nishita works for one of his teams.
“We are devastated by the loss of the security guard and our friend Kevin Nishita. Our condolences go out to Kevin’s wife, children, family and all of his friends and colleagues.
“This senseless loss of life is the result of another violent crime in the Bay Area. Hopefully offering a reward will help arrest those responsible so they can be brought to justice for this terrible tragedy, “said KRON4 Vice President and General. In a Twitter post on Saturday, Oakland Police said the reward was increased from $ 27,500 for information leading to an arrest on the case to $ 32,500.
On Saturday, Oakland Police also released a surveillance photo of a vehicle they believe involved in the robbery and murder attempt of Nishita, a 2004-2008 white 4-door Acura TL with sunroof and no front bezel.
San Jose police said Nishita was an officer in the department from 2001 to 2012 and Colma, California police said Nishita joined forces in 2012. He worked as a detective and policeman. He was a sergeant in 2015 and left the department in 2018, according to a statement from Colma police.
Oakland police said Wednesday that the guard was rushed to the hospital after the shooting occurred around noon.
He said the attack followed “an extremely violent week” and the number will increase to respond to violent crimes in the city.
“Last weekend, the city of Oakland was flooded with armed trailers that attacked dozens of businesses, including pharmacies, retail stores and a number of cannabis-related operations,” a police press release said.
