On Thursday, September 9, news surfaced that R&B singer Jaheim Hoagland was arrested on charges of animal cruelty. The arrest came after 15 dogs were reportedly found in deplorable conditions at the singer’s New Jersey home.

Jaheim, who found success in the music scene in the early 2000s, created many hit singles during his peak years. Hence, fans were in shock when they heard the charges reportedly being pressed against him.

Jaheim Hoagland is an American singer R&B genre singer.

He was signed to Divine Mill Records by Naughty by Nature’s Kaygee in 2000 and released his debut album Ghetto Love in 2001 and followed that up with Still Ghetto in 2002.

Fans were really impressed by his hit singles Put That Woman First (2003), Fabulous (2003) and Ain’t Leavin Without You (2009).

Jaheim’s third album, Ghetto Classics, was released on February 14, 2006, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Jahiem, who was once compared to Luther Vandross, is a New Brunswick native. He is also the grandson of Hoagy Lands, who famously sang for The Drifters and many other bands/groups.

To date, the 43-year-old singer has sold approximately five million records worldwide and has received three Grammy nominations. His latest release was the 2016 album, Struggle Love.

Singer Jaheim Arrested Or Not

After the singer’s arrest, prosecutors revealed that out of 15, some of the dogs were found in crates filled with feces and water.

Cops arrived at the Grammy-nominated singer’s residence on Monday morning to investigate a “puppy in distress” report. They found six dogs in the driveway, one of whom was initially unresponsive as it laid in a water-filled crate.

Somerset County Prosecutor’s office revealed that the dog had to be euthanized later.

The authorities also revealed that once they entered the house, they found nine more dogs “in varying stages of emaciation,” as they had no access to food or water.

Two of the singer’s dogs had to be taken to an emergency vet clinic for treatment. Finally, the 14 surviving dogs were carried to the Long Hill Kennel pet boarding service in Hillsborough.

Jaheim, whose Instagram has been made private now, has been charged with third-degree animal cruelty and failure to provide necessary care to an animal. The singer’s court hearing is still pending.

One was euthanized after the alarming discovery, according to authorities. He was charged for the act of cruelty and inattention to an animal.

Somerset County prosecutors said in a press release that the singer is not responding to any queries.

OTHER CHARGES AGAINST THE SINGER

This isn’t Jaheim’s first run-in with the law.

Back in 1996, he was sentenced to five years’ probation after pleading guilty for possession of drugs with intent to distribute.

Only two years ago (in 2019), the singer pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge, which was downgraded from a weapons charge following his 2017 arrest.

To add to the above, in February 2021, Jaheim was charged $244,805.30 for not paying federal taxes.
