Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has named four players that have been “phenomenal” in their work to return from injuries.
Gunners boss Arteta has picked out Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares, Gabriel Martinelli and Calum Chambers in his latest press conference by giving them big praise for their work behind the scenes.
Centre-back Mari and forward Martinelli are two first-team players that are yet to play a single minute so far this season due to ankle and knee problems respectively.
Meanwhile, right-back Cedric has had his season disrupted by so far due to injuries and defender Chambers continued his comeback by playing for the club’s Under-23s side on Friday.
It shows that there is perhaps a great strength in depth than people suspect in the squad at Arsenal and they desperately need players back to help boost them.
“We’ve been hit really hard with some big injuries, not only Pablo but Cedric as well, since he joined here he’s had two or three different incidents. Gabi Martinelli has been out for such a long time, Calum Chambers got injured three weeks after I was here and he still hasn’t played a single game. He’s still recovering. It is what it is,” Arteta said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“What I can say is that the approach of those players and the way they’ve been trying to work to get back to their best has been phenomenal in all cases.”
One standout name from Arsenal’s injury list is Martinelli, with the Brazilian absent due to a knee problem.
But the 19-year-old is back on the training pitches and it’s going to be such a lift when he’s fully match fit again at the Emirates Stadium.
The Brazilian winger scored 10 goals in just 26 games across all competitions this season and the team could really do with the injection of his directness to try help their current problem in the final third.
Arteta’s side have surprisingly looked toothless in attack this season and their talented youngster Martinelli could make a big difference.
