Tottenham won out against Manchester City yesterday as Harry Kane put in a superb display, but former Spurs man and now pundit, Jermaine Jenas, singled out Eric Dier for praise.
Dier was in fine form as he helped shackle the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus. The England man, now widely recognised and appreciated as a first-class defender, made countless blocks and excellent tackles throughout the 90 minutes.
And while the likes of Kane, Son, and Ndombele took the plaudits in an attacking sense, former Spurs and Nottingham Forest star Jenas took to Twitter to laud Dier’s performance as ‘sensational’.

Under Jose Mourinho, Dier has quickly developed into one of the most dependable central defenders in the Premier League. For England, too, Dier is now seen by Gareth Southgate as a key cog in his squad.
Jenas’ praise, then, seems justified and Dier will have an even more important role now, with Toby Alderweireld set to miss a period on the sidelines through injury.
A fine performance from a player improving week by week – TBR View
Dier has had his fair share of ridicule in the past and plenty of fans and pundits have taken pot shots at him at times for his performances and, at times, lack of discipline.
However, the England man is showing just why Mourinho is a big fan of him. Dier is epitomised everything good about Spurs against City yesterday and if he continues as is, then the title might be within sight.
One of the most improve players in the league, Dier is proof that Mourinho can still get the best out of players.
