Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has posted on Instagram with an update on his injury, which has prompted get well messages from ex-players Jamie Redknapp and Jose Enrique.
Gomez, 23, was recently forced to pull out of the England squad through injury and he’s now joining centre-back partner Virgil van Dijk on the sidelines for an extended period of time.
Liverpool confirmed on their official website that the Reds star had surgery on Thursday to repair a tendon in his left knee.
Despite the fact there is no official timescale yet on his return, he is expected to be out of action of for a large chunk of the 2020/21 season.
Gomez uploaded a post on social media where he claimed he’s already on “the road to recovery”:
Losing Gomez was the last thing Liverpool needed after seeing their colossus defender Van Dijk suffer an injury blow and plenty feel it’s blown the Premier League title race wide open.
Jurgen Klopp’s side could now be set for a tougher defence of their league crown and they look extremely short in the heart of their backline, but their front-footed approach in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City proves the manager is willing to attack and he may shift his focus onto outscoring the opponents.
With Diogo Jota now added into the mix, the Merseyside giants have an attacking front four that looks as good as any and on their day they should be ripping through defences.
If Fabinho and Joel Matip can stay fit, Liverpool should still be considered frontrunners for the title.
