Former Liverpool players David James and Danny Murphy have delivered their takes on the possibility of the Reds signing David Alaba.
The Austria international is seemingly coming to the end of his time at Bayern Munich, with speculation rife that he won’t pen a new contract.
Liverpool, of course, raided Bayern during the last transfer window to sign Thiago Alcantara, and it remains to be seen if Alaba will make a free switch to join the Spaniard at Anfield.
In the eyes of James, Alaba’s quality is not in doubt, although Liverpool would need to think carefully about what a move would me for others.
He told Stadium Astro: “I’m just trying to work out what system they would play if they had him in the side.
“He is a phenomenal player. Watching him in the Champions League, he is scary going forward. Liverpool would want him – any top six of English clubs would want him.
“These short-term fixes have long-term consequences because you end up pushing someone further down the line. It’s whether it fits into the Liverpool plan.”
Another ex-Liverpool man Danny Murphy was more open to the idea: “In terms of his ability, he absolutely fits. He’s a super player.
BGA’s View – Alaba improves Liverpool no doubt
Alaba would be an absolutely amazing pickup by Jurgen Klopp.
The star is a very intelligent player, who is probably one of the most versatile high-level players in Europe.
One would think he wouldn’t have too many problems, and to get him on a potential free transfer is just a no-brainer.
