A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to celebrate Paul Glatzel’s first goal for the Reds Under-23s since coming back from a long-term injury.
The 19-year-old, who joined the Liverpool academy at Under-9 level, suffered a serious knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers in July 2019.
Glatzel is one of the Reds setup’s most highly-rated youngsters and looked ready to make his mark on Jurgen Klopp’s first team before his unfortunate injury.
Indeed, the Liverpool boss lamented his injury last year, going on to describe him as “a wonderful kid, a wonderful player, unbelievable.”
Following a lengthy stint on the sidelines, he is now back to full fitness and made his first appearance in last week’s 1-0 win over Arsenal U23s, coming off the bench on 62 minutes.
On Friday afternoon, Liverpool U23s ran out 4-2 winners over West Ham U23s, with Luis Longstaff, Thomas Clayton, Liam Millar and Glatzel scoring for the visitors.
Glatzel, who had replaced Jack Bearne midway through the second half, surged forward and curled a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area in the third minute of injury time.
Needless to say it was a timely reminder for Klopp and co of his talents, and plenty of Reds fans on social media were delighted:
Great to see him back.

Brilliant result for #LFC U23s. Barry Lewtas doing a fantastic job with a young team. Longstaff, Clayton, Millar and Glatzel with the goals today. They had trailed at HT. Great to see Glaztel back and firing after a tough year or so injury wise. Big talent. https://t.co/aJkDnpdyUb
