Tottenham Hotspur are a Champions League-level team boasting an “incredibly high level” of individual quality, LASK manager Dominik Thalhammer told LAOLA1 after their Europa League clash yesterday.
Jose Mourinho’s Spurs ran out 3-0 winners over their Austrian counterparts at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min netting either side of Andres Andrade’s own goal.
Lucas opened the scoring after 18 minutes and Gareth Bale’s pass was turned by Andrade into his own net nine minutes later, while Son added a late third to ensure a winning start for Tottenham to their Group J campaign.
It was a fairly routine victory for Spurs in the end and Thalhammer paid tribute to the quality within the Lilywhites ranks following his side’s heavy defeat on the road.
“You have to acknowledge Tottenham is actually a Champions League team,” the 50-year-old told LAOLA1 .
“It’s a team that was in the Champions League final a year and a half ago. They have an incredibly high level of individual quality. You have to acknowledge that.”
Spurs endured a difficult season last time out, which included a change in manager and a crisis up front which left Mourinho without a recognised striker, and did very well to even make the Europa League in the end.
Although the North Londoners will have tougher opposition this season, it was still a great display which boosts confidence following their capitulation against West Ham last time out.
