Celtic defender Shane Duffy had a shift to forget last night as he struggled for the Hoops in their Europa League defeat at Parkhead.
Neil Lennon’s charges were hoping to put the disappointment of the derby defeat behind them as they locked horns with AC Milan.
Duffy didn’t impress against Rangers last week and once again looked off the boil as the Italian giants ran out 3-1 winners in Glasgow.
The 28-year-old made several errors, including ones which led to the opposition scoring as he was beaten by Brahim Diaz and Jens Petter Hauge for the second and third.
“This is poor defending again one vs one,” Glenn Hoddle said on BT Sport – as quoted by the Glasgow Times – about the third goal.
“I think Duffy’s been out and hasn’t played a lot of football and he looked tired at the end, he just can’t get his hips round quick enough.”
Duffy began really well at Celtic but has struggled the last few games – maybe not so much a lack of match fitness, as he hit the ground running at the club, but just tiredness, so he could do with a rest.
In addition, he’s not really a ball-playing centre-half and, while good against route one teams with big strikers, can be left exposed when up against a pacey forward – something Lennon needs to bear in mind going forward.
