A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to implore Mikel Arteta to do all he can to get Folarin Balogun to sign a new contract after the youngster scored a superb brace for the under-23s on Saturday.
Balogun’s future remains a talking point amongst the Gunners fans. The striker’s contract at the Emirates expires at the end of the season.
According to a report from Football London in September, Balogun has no plans to extend his deal. That however, did not tempt Arsenal into selling the 19-year-old on the cheap during the summer.
The Daily Mail reported that the Gunners wanted £15 million for the forward before the window closed. It was suggested that Sheffield United had bid £3 million for Balogun, and been left stunned by Arsenal’s demands.
He continues to await his first-team debut. But perhaps, Arsenal’s asking price looks a little more understandable following his latest display.
Balogun scored twice in six second-half minutes as the Gunners came from 3-1 down to draw with Manchester United’s under-23s at the weekend.
To many Arsenal fans, that display should convince Arteta to give him a chance in the coming weeks. Several fear that the Gunners will rue losing him if he does head elsewhere at the end of his contract.
‘Get him in the first-team’
Of course, it may make little sense for Arteta to hand him chances if they feel that Balogun’s mind is made up.
But if there remains the slightest chance that he could yet be persuaded to stay, some feel that he has to be promoted in the very near future.
Here is how some of the fans reacted to Balogun’s brace…

I genuinely don’t know why Balogun hasn’t been given a glimmer of a chance in the first team yet

Balogun is such an elite goal scorer for the u23, we really need to give him a chance in some cup games this season

Balogun doing bits for U23’s. Time to bring him into the first team fold and not sell him.
