Southampton and West Bromwich Albion have joined a couple of their Premier League rivals in the running to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek, with the Daily Mail reporting that Aston Villa and West Ham United also want the midfielder.
The Mail notes that Loftus-Cheek is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. He has not featured since the Blues’ opening game of the campaign.
And a number of top flight rivals are keen on signing Loftus-Cheek should he be made available before the end of the transfer window.
The report notes that his wages may prove a stumbling block. Spotrac shows that he earns £60,000-a-week. And the Mail claims that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men will need Chelsea to subsidise some of his wages should he move to St Mary’s on loan.
TBR View: Southampton move could be ideal for Loftus-Cheek, but West Brom look to be major outsiders
West Brom face an obvious problem in their pursuit of Loftus-Cheek. They have already signed Conor Gallagher on loan from Stamford Bridge.
So Slaven Bilic’s men will have to move to sign the England international permanently if they want to win the race.
A move to Southampton meanwhile, would arguably be a great step for Loftus-Cheek. The Saints certainly need additional quality in the middle of the park.
There is an opportunity for the midfielder to stamp his authority on a place in the side. So a switch to the south coast could make a lot of sense for the Chelsea man.
