Mere months after the demise of Microsoft’s streaming service Mixer, Tyler Blevins, better known as Ninja, is back on Twitch. The streaming superstar surprised fans by playing a game of Fortnite and talking a little about his future plans.
When Ninja signed an exclusivity contract with Mixer, it seemed like a fantastic coup for the new streaming platform. Unfortunately, Ninja alone wasn’t enough to turn the service into a solid Twitch competitor, and Microsoft was forced to shut it down.
This has left Ninja in limbo, with fans wondering where he’ll go next, if he even returns to streaming at all. So is this first Fortnite stream an indicator that Ninja is coming back to Twitch permanently?
NINJA: Streaming star’s post-Mixer plans revealed
Is Ninja back on Twitch for good?
Speaking about his future plans to return to Twitch during the stream, Ninja explained that, like an awkward relationship status on Facebook, it’s complicated.
What exactly this means remains to be seen. There’s every possibility that the star will take part in more streams on Twitch.
That said, he has pointed out that he lacks many of the features he used to enjoy on the platform. It might be some time before he gets his previous status reinstated if he does return to Twitch in a more permanent capacity.
What’s next beyond Twitch?
According to Ninja himself, he’s not completely back on Twitch just yet:
“Okay, so, I’m kind of in a thing, I’m allowed to see other people. It’s complicated.”
From the sounds of it, there may still be legal ramifications from his deal with Mixer that have yet to be resolved. Ninja might have some obligations to the newly bolstered Facebook Gaming, which absorbed what was left of Mixer once Microsoft closed down its streaming platform.
Whatever happens next on Twitch, it’s clear that Ninja has been left in a very awkward position. Here’s hoping that he can set up in a new home soon, and put the messy Mixer business behind him.
